Antun Saadeh is known for the establishment of the Syrian Social Nationalist Party. He is also known for upholding the preinciples of a unified Geographic Syria, However, no scholar or researcher has tackled the ultimate goal for which Saadeh created in the first place his party, and demanded unification; basically, to grant the people the power to decide their own fate, and in the process, allow them the necessary freedoms that would open up new avenues for their progress and advancement along other nations. Following in the footspeps of his father, Dr. Khalil Saadhe strove for the implementation of the freedom of speech, the freedom of the press, the freedom of association, the formation of parties, and the freedom of belief. He creiticized the successive governments in Syria and Lebanon between 1930 and 1949 for their oppression fo citizens, depriving them of their civil and human rights. This book at introducing the reader to an aspect of Antun Saadh's thougbt that is often neglected, namely, his concept of democracy. It endeavors to dispel the misconceptions and misinterpretations that have shrouded Antun saadeh's thought, and to bring to the foreground and Arab thinker who labored to modernize his country along the Lines of a liberal democracy.
